Auf Anraten von Jose Manuel von GB Records in New York hat sich der musikalische Direktor des Kuba-Labels ENVIDIA, Luis Dominguez entschieden, mit der jüngeren Garde von Envidia-Musikern einige alte Fania-Titel (Fania war das legendäre New Yorker Label in den siebziger Jahren) einzuspielen.
Das war ein guter Entscheid, denn die CD ist sehr gelungen.
Klar sind es alles Titel, die man bereits kennt; die beiden Gründe, wieso diese Produktion gleichwohl ihre Berechtigung hat:
Erstens, die Titel sind total frisch und und mit soviel Power gespielt, dass man sie sich gerne ein weiteres Mal anhört, zudem ist die Aufnahmequalität perfekt. Rei Peña aus Puerto Rico hat Bläser, Piano, Percussion und Bass so gemischt, dass ein dynamischer, fetter Sound entstanden ist, an dem nichts auszusetzten ist.
Zweitens, durch die kubanische Spielweise der Fania-Songs kann man problemlos sämtliche Stile dazu tanzen, das führt dazu, dass auch Leute Zugang zu diesen Klassikern finden, die bisher mit New York Sound nicht so viel anfangen konnten.
Wertvolle Neuerscheinung, die aufzeigt, dass sich Musik aus Kuba und New York bestens vertragen.
Zudem ist die CD eine Perle für HiFi-Freaks.
